Glow, Go, and Run…It’s the TwiLight Fun Run

July 17, 2025

“You got this…go, go, go…nice job!”

At any given fitness event you’ll likely find Jody Nieman cheering on the crowd. “I emcee events and am probably the biggest cheerleader for the participants,” said Nieman, a staff member with the Palatine Park District’s Fitness Department.

For over 20 years, Nieman has been with the District – from teaching tots to her current role leading fitness classes and assisting with special events such as the Turkey Trot, Tri Your Luck Triathlon, and coming Friday, August 8, the TwiLight Fun Run. The Run is a 2.25 mile course around Hamilton Park.

“The Twilight Run is one of my favorite Park District events,” Nieman said. “It has a casual, yet competitive family-friendly feel. It starts and ends at Ron Gbur Sports Field, and the course takes you through the surrounding neighborhood. It begins at sunset and ends in the dark, where runners are greeted by energizing music, glow sticks, and neon magic.”

“I’ll be greeting each competitor as they stand at the start line and congratulating them as they cross the finish,” she added.

The Twilight run began in 2023.

“It was a special race with a real community atmosphere. Everyone was really letting loose and enjoying themselves,” she said. “People couldn’t help it – they were dancing and cheering each other on. The energy was electric and unforgettable.”

So what can participants expect at this year’s run?

“An evening full of excitement, running, and community,” Nieman said. “I encourage everyone to participate. It’s a 2.25- mile race so it’s perfect for beginners and walkers, but also a short distance for fast runners looking to break their personal records.”

There will also be games, photo opportunities, and a DJ. “Alison does an amazing job organizing and putting this race together,” Nieman added.

And if you haven’t quite gotten your fitness routine going that’s ok.

“Not too much preparation is needed,” she said. “Beginners just have to work up to walking or running 2.25 miles. Come out and run with us. We will have the glow sticks, water, and snacks! Join the party!”

And when you’re taking those last couple steps to the finish line you can be sure you won’t be alone. Jody Nieman will be right there, cheering you on!
