New Family Fitness Event – TwiLight Fun Run

July 31, 2023

Bring your lanterns and glow sticks and light up the night at TwiLight Fun Run!

Palatine Park District introduces TwiLight Fun Run, Friday, August 18 at Tom T. Hamilton Reservoir (Hamilton Park), on north Smith Road. Participants will complete just over a 2-mile loop around the park and into the neighboring streets. Runners are encouraged to be creative with LED lights, glow sticks, or any creative lantern to illuminate and guide them along the course.

According to Recreation and Fitness Program Coordinator, Alison Shariatzadeh, TwiLight Fun Run was created to offer a unique, family-friendly fitness experience. “We wanted to offer a new event and this is one of the only night races in the area,” Shariatzadeh said.

TwiLight Fun Run pre-race activities begin at 6:00pm with games, photo ops, and music. The race starts at sundown – approximately 7:45pm. “This is a great family-friendly event,” Shariatzadeh said. “You can run or walk the course. Glow games will be available to play before and after the event and kids can spend time at the Hamilton Playground,” she added.

Each participant will receive a LED Blacklight flashlight and various glow items in their race bag. The flashlights can be used to view the glow signs along the course.

Pre-registration for TwiLight Fun Run is now available for $30.00 per runner. Same day registration is available for $35.00. Registration is available at Palatine Park District facilities or online at palatineparks.org.

In preparation for the fun run, Palatine Park District is offering lantern decorating workshops. Each participant will decorate a paper lantern to use while participating in the TwiLight Fun Run. Two workshops will be offered on Saturdays, August 5, and August 12 from 11:00am-12:00pm at the Palatine Park District Community Center, 250 E. Wood Street. Fee is $10 per participant.
