Volunteers were recently honored at the District’s Volunteer Recognition Luncheon held Saturday, February 1 at Cotillion Banquets in Palatine.
The volunteers, who originate from affiliate groups and associated organizations, were chosen by each group for their service during the 2024 calendar year.
Guest Speaker Kathy Millin, Retired Executive Director of Partners For Our Communities (POC) spoke to guests about the impact their volunteer work has on the community. Millin dedicated over 20 years as Executive Director at Partners for Our Communities and taught ESL and Adult Literacy at Harper College for nearly three decades.
The individuals named 2024 Volunteer of the Year by their organizations were:
In addition to the Volunteer of the Year awards, the Spotlight Awards were given to two volunteers. This award is given to “shine a light on the exemplary service efforts of individuals”.
David Campos and Matt Roberts from Palatine Celtic Soccer Club were recognized with the Spotlight Award.
Campos saw a growing need in the Hispanic community for kids to have access to play soccer. His dedicated effort has helped hundreds of kids get the chance to play organized soccer in their community.
Roberts was integral in scheduling games for the annual Celic Cup tournament – a task that involved scheduling over 500 games in less than 72 hours. Roberts’ exceptional dedication to scheduling and scoring responsibilities, combined with his unwavering commitment to Celtic Soccer, made a lasting impact on the organization.
Palatine Park District also recognizes distinguished volunteers through the Palatine Park District Honor Roll.
Adam Deegan from Palatine Community Baseball and Softball(PCBS) was the 2025 Honor Roll Inductee. Deegan embarked on his journey with PCBS eight years ago and established himself as a “remarkable coach”. Deegan went on to serve on the lead role for the training committee, VP of baseball and eventually transitioned to the Executive Director position. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in guiding PCBS to become a true affiliate of Palatine Park District. Under Deegan’s leadership, PCBS has seen advancements in numerous areas showcasing his exceptional ability to drive progress and inspire those around him.
To be considered for the Honor Roll, volunteers must meet criteria of longevity, leadership and impact.
